M. Grig is Mike Grigoni, a composer and guitarist who plays dobro, lap steel and pedal steel guitar. Originally from the Pacific Northwest, he now lives in Durham, North Carolina. With extensive credits as a session musician and film composer, since moving to North Carolina he has released three instrumental albums, Field Notes (2016), Still Lifes (2017), and Millpond Way (2018) on Other Songs Music Co.
Le Devoir calls Field Notes “meditative, evolving, expectant,” a kind of “slow Americana.” Still Lifes has been described as “cinematic pastoral” (Stationary Travels), “wistful Americana rooted in memories and the natural world” (Various Small Flames), and “the soundtrack of my inner thoughts” (Sawdust and Gin).
His latest release, Millpond Way, combines the acoustic and electric sensibilities of his previous albums. Named after the street on which he grew up, Millpond Way represents the latest installment of a still rare bird: an artist-composer of the steel guitar.
